1) Why do you want to be a student councillor?
When I first stepped into SJC, it was rather frightening for me because I hardly knew anybody at all. It was difficult and I felt quite alone at first but after the camp that was organized by the student council, we got to know better and gradually felt at home. It was the councillors that bonded students from different schools together, and make us feel a sense of belonging to SJC. That inspired me to become a part of the student council seeing the example. I want to do the same for others. I feel that me being a part of the Student Council will enables me to help to instil a sense of passion in all SJCians for the school through activities and make our school like a second home to them just like what the seniors have done for us. Most of all, I want to give back to SJC
2) What are the qualities do you think a student councillor should have?
Based on our school values, these are the qualities a good student should have integrity, truth, justice and love but in order to be a good student councillor, she should have the following values as well.
Adaptability-A student councillor have to always be flexible and complete a task no matter how difficult the task is.
Self-discipline-A student council has to managing her time well that includes school work and their duty’s and have to end whatever you’ve started well.
Perseverance-A student council have to face stressful situations especially involving people and their feeling and should not give up halfway though things are tough.
Integrity-As a student council we have to be honest to ourselves and others and stand up for what is right, even when no one is looking. We should not be afraid to admit that we have done something wrong and tell the truth.
Respect- Respect must not only be shown to teachers and elders but we must respect every individual as a human being and to treat people how you want to be treated.
3) What are the strengths and values you posses?
I get on well with both teachers and other students as I always show respect and I am fair and level headed. I show respect for my school through simple ways like always wearing my uniform neat and tidy and also always according to the School’s conduct .I have the self-confidence to make decisions and am motivated and enthusiastic to any task given to me. I believe in showing a commitment to the school and always being prepared to get involved in school activities enables me to work well in a team by motivating others as well. Another strength I posses is humility and charity. I actively participate in my primary school’s monthly bake sale and the proceeds collected are donated to the school. Participating in these activities has helped me to instil a sense of charity to help others who are in need and also become a good leader.
4) Do you think you can manage your school work after becoming a student leader?
Time management has never been my forte, but I think this is a personal flaw that I am taking steps to overcome. Through much experience, I have learnt to always jot down homework during school time and to sit down and work out a schedule, adhere to it, and soon it became a routine. It is important to prioritize my time from the most important to the least important. It can benefit me as a student council have to have accomplish many duties while having to finish school work and personal affairs on time. It enables me to set goals and to motivate myself to turn the vision of the future into reality.
